Entangled

Florence thinks she’s finally met her soulmate when a friend from High School contacts her through the class website. Charismatic and funny, he sweeps her off her feet, but Daniel isn’t all that he seems. Entangled in love, money, and a dream, she realizes his game and struggles to take back her life.

Meteorologists report hurricane winds in the Gulf of Mexico and my boat is in danger of sinking. I’m trying to wrap my head around the possibility of losing a ten-thousand-dollar investment in my Florida dream life. I had no business buying a boat. Everyone tried to warn me, but Daniel was supposed to be my second chance at happy ever after. He was charming and charismatic when we first met, but all I see of him lately is a needy man who has no regard for my wellbeing. He was insistent that we could float away and leave all our problems behind. The thought of sailing off into the sunset seemed like a fairy tale but quickly became a nightmare. The little bit of money I had in my bank account has dwindled and my debts are mounting. I no longer have control. As if someone else is acting out my life, I feel removed. Yet, I can’t let go. I’ve already invested three years with Daniel. I gave him my heart, my money and my future. Without him, I’ll have nothing.

Some people hear the word sociopath, they imagine a psychopathic killer, but sociopaths do not kill the body. They are killers of the heart. Driven by narcissism, they lack a sense of moral responsibility and have no conscience. The definition doesn’t come close to what lurks beneath the surface. I know because I was entangled with one. His abuse was subtle and hard to pinpoint. I gave Daniel the benefit of the doubt. Doubt! Remember that word. It drove me to the edge of insanity by the time the relationship was done. Not everyone will understand how he could deceive and manipulate me for so long. Daniel was clever and a master at manipulation, able to twist the truth until I accepted his fabricated reality. I didn’t recognize his cunning, devious nature. It’s still hard to believe that the person I loved never really existed. He was a ghost, a man without a soul.

This is a personal journey with a sociopath—the author exposes the many tricks of a conman who uses women for their money under the guise of love. Florence experiences love-bombing, deceit, lies, triangulation, devaluation, projection, gas lighting, shame, and discard.
